Phishing
Fraudsters get personal information through a WAP/Internet site that looks like your banking site. This is normally done through a link placed in an email:
- Never go to your account using a link or saved page. Rather type in the website address.
- If you think there has been fraudulent activity on your account, contact FNB's Cellphone Banking Helpdesk on 0861 313 210.
- NEVER use public internet cafes or insecure places for banking.
- To check if a web link is for the correct site that you want to go to, place the mouse slightly above the link and the URL will appear.
Smishing
A scam where customers are tricked into giving information through an SMS:
- NEVER reply to the number provided in the SMS.
- Save the FNB Cellphone Banking Helpdesk Number 0861 313 210 on your cellphone and call us if you suspect fraud.
Vishing
Customers are called and tricked into giving their personal information:
- NEVER go on with a call where the person asks for One-Time-PINs, Cellphone Banking PIN and any other banking PINs.
- Contact FNB immediately on 0861 313 210.
- NEVER give out your information.
- FNB will NEVER contact you to check information such as Cellphone Banking PIN, One-Time-PIN, Card Numbers and ATM PIN. Contact FNB immediately on 0861 313 210 if you get calls asking for this information.
SIM Swaps
Fraudsters contact your cellphone network provider and change your cellphone number to a new SIM:
- If you can't access your network, contact your Mobile Network Operator to make sure that a SIM swap has not been done on your number.
- If a swap has been done, contact FNB's Cellphone Banking Helpdesk on 0861 313 210 to block your Cellphone Banking account on FNB's system.
- If your number has been SIM swapped, your Mobile Network Operator might alert you that a SIMs swap has been asked for. If you have not requested this, please contact your service provider and FNB Cellphone Banking Helpdesk on 0861 313 210 to block your Cellphone Banking account.
